Why I love this photograph!
31 January, 2024

In documentary wedding photography, the emphasis is very much candidly "Capturing Your Stories" without posing or instruction by the photographer.
It's your wedding day, your story!
Sometimes I will be asked to photograph in a more structured manner, and these moments can still evoque moving or funny moments, that are still natural, even though part of a posed selection of images.
This picture was made after the bride's 'mum friends' from her child's school, wanted to lift her horizontally for a bit of fun...the photograph worked and indeed was funny in it's own right, but this photograph of Elysa getting her under garments untangled still makes me smile to look at and one of my favourite images of the day.
Light is particularly important for great monochrome photographs, and although it was getting a little dim, the quality of light was beautiful and combined with the shapes Elysa and her friends were making, alongside wonderful expressions by the friends on either side, made for a wonderful semi-candid photograph and one I hope my client loves as much as I do.
